Cinnamon Buns

A couple of weeks ago our older son and his wife came up from LA for a weekend visit.  When I asked if there was anything special I should make for their visit my daughter-in-law asked about cinnamon buns, and of course, I was happy to oblige.

I remembered making an incredible recipe from Maida Heatter’s  Book of Great American Desserts several years ago.

I was amazed then at how light and luscious these buns were, and I recalled  there was a secret ingredient I had never before seen in a cinnamon bun recipe… mashed potatoes!

They were so wonderful I had posted the recipe on my blog, and here is the link  for these incredibly delicious sweet (but not too sweet) rolls.

And this time I even have some better photos…

Note:  Although the recipe calls for raisins, this time I had them ready, but forgot to put them in. (didn’t actually miss them at all…they are delicious with or without the raisins), and I’ve discovered there are many who are not fans of raisins, anyway).

The recipe is long, but not difficult, especially if you are used to working with a yeast dough.

Just plan to give yourself lots of time as the dough requires several risings.  I can assure you it is worth the wait!

And I have to say I think they came out even better this time..practice does make perfect!
