Last week we were fortunate to attend what has become an annual event in San Luis Obispo, The Festival Mozaic. What began as 3 concerts over a weekend 44 years ago has grown to encompass 22 events over a 10 day span during the month of July.
An array of very talented musicians have come to the Central Coast to participate in this unique and special musical event, performing in various venues throughout the area.
Founded in 1971 as the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Festival Mozaic is one of the oldest and most respected classical music festivals in the West. Taking place in July, with additional concerts throughout the year, the Festival offers more than 30 events in San Luis Obispo County’s most charismatic spaces. It is supported by a large, diverse and loyal audience base that includes locals and visitors who travel from many surrounding areas to attend.
The Festival’s programs are designed and led by dynamic music director, Scott Yoo, a virtuoso violinist and conductor who performs internationally. Maestro Yoo conducts orchestras and performs worldwide, consistently representing Festival Mozaic throughout the world.
The event we attended was a dinner in the plaza of the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, after which we enjoyed a Mozart concert inside the old mission.
The Plaza was transformed into the perfect setting for the meal which was generously prepared and executed by one of the local iconic restaurants in SLO, Big Sky Cafe.
The delicious farm to table menu inspired by the music of Mozart is below.
It was a delightful evening …and we will be looking forward to experiencing more of what the festival has to offer next year !
