Happy 4th of July!
We celebrated at home this year, having recently returned from a wonderful trip to Michigan where my youngest brother hosted a family reunion at his home near the the lake.
We play bocce every Tuesday with our neighbors throughout the year at a nearby park.
When we moved to our new home almost four years ago now, I never saw that coming , but we really enjoy each other’s company and look forward to it every week. We have been playing for at least 3 years now and it’s always a good time.
Since there were enough of us home today we decided not to cancel the game.
Afterward everyone came to our home to celebrate the holiday just as countless others throughout the country must have today with the all American grilled hot dog!

We munched on salsa and chips and sipped on wine while my husband grilled the hot dogs and Polish sausage.
Baked beans, cole slaw, potato chips and pickles rounded out the menu.
For dessert I already had an assortment of fresh berries in the fridge so I decided to make Ina Garten’s Lemon Angel Food Cake because for me it isn’t the fourth of July without a red, white and blue dessert!
Macerating the fresh berries in a bit of sugar and letting them stand at room temperature is all you need to do to create a delicious fruit topping for the light and airy lemon and orange scented cake.
Add a scoop of raspberry sorbet and you have another reason to celebrate! Yum!
