We invited our neighbors to join us yesterday for a NewYear’s Day brunch!
We all moved into our homes here in Slo a little more than six years ago, and became a close knit group fairly quickly.
We have formed our own little family in many ways, looking out for each other when one of us is away, getting each other’s mail, picking up the papers, watering plants (one of us has many more than the others, not saying who…ahem)!
We play bocce on a weekly basis at our nearby park, and occasionally make it a pot luck picnic at a local winery’s bocce court.
We play games together at each others homes, celebrate the 4th of July or Memorial Day with impromptu picnics in our huge driveway which we all prefer to call our courtyard!
When someone is not well the concern for each other is evident in the calls, visits and email threads and text messages of support and offers of help.
When my husband and I moved here from the East coast knowing nobody at first we often say our transition was made so much easier because of our neighbors who have become fast friends.
Now onto the brunch menu. I am sorry to say I didn’t get photos of everything because we were just having too much fun talking, laughing and eating!
But here’s the menu with or without pics…
We began with Bloody Mary’s (made our own mix), and mimosas, or screwdrivers.
With the drinks we enjoyed the Caviar Torte ( see photo at top, recipe to come) served with crackers and toasts, and these Citrus Herb Olives …

The buffet included a smoked salmon platter, a basket of bagels from our local House of Bagels…

I baked some Angel Biscuits as the vehicle for some delicious mini ham sandwiches… ramekins of cornichons, sweet/hot mustard, spicy brown mustard, apricot jam, and fig jam on the side…

Below is a pic of my breakfast the next morning…yum! (I like it with sweet/hot mustard and apricot jam)

There was also Caesar Salad with homemade dressing and croutons…

a Fresh Fruit Platter…

and a Bacon/Leek Quiche (made a rectangular one and a round one…gone before I could get a pic of the rectangular one)… so delicious!!! (will post recipe later)

and last but definitely not least… Cherry Pecan Streusel Coffee Cake, Pumpkin Bread, and a Chocolate Babka…

This Chocolate Babka was made by a friend who promised me the recipe, and I will be sure to get it…amazing!!!
Everyone went home happy and full and I would say 2020 is off to a great start!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
