Dinner at Sheila’s recently became 10 years old! And I have to say it took me by surprise!
I never imagined when I began this blog I would still be at it 10 years later! But here I am, and happy to say I’m still excited about it.
I have always been happy in the kitchen, and found cooking and baking to be not only creative, satisfying, and rewarding but, educational as well…there’s always a new technique to learn or a new cuisine to try. And the old adage “practice makes perfect” really does apply…
But regardless of how personally satisfying I find it, nothing compares with sharing your accomplishments with others, whether it be your first layer cake, or a challenging holiday dinner for many, or even beginning a food blog.
There’s a joy in feeding people that involves much more than just filling a belly.
It’s a way of showing love and support and to provide comfort in trying times.
And during these trying days it is no wonder so many have turned to baking bread for the first time or cooking dinner rather than ordering in.
As I go forward into my 11th year of this blog I want to thank all of you who have followed it through these years continually, or even just now and then, and all who have tried some of the recipes, and enjoyed them.
In the coming year my son, who put this whole idea of beginning a blog in my mind years ago, has promised in the coming year we will be moving forward to making the format more user friendly.
Since every celebration needs a cake, we celebrated with this Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Frosting. The recipe is from the Magnolia Bakery in NYC.
I previously posted The Magnolia Bakery’s Vanilla cupcakes, which you can find here.
I actually only had to make the frosting which is sooooo good because when I made the cupcakes the full recipe is for 24 cupcakes or 12 cupcakes and two 9 inch layer cakes! And I made the the cake layers and froze them.
And when I suddenly realized late that Dinner at Sheila’s hit a milestone I remembered those cake layers in my freezer!
So I defrosted the cake, whipped up the frosting , and we had our cake and ate it too!
