According to the Lunar calendar last evening at sunset we welcomed the new year, 5782!

As we reflect on the past year, as challenging as it has been, we look for the good which has also been evident. We move into the new year with a renewed sense of hope for the days ahead, one which will bring healing, justice and a better world for all.
It is traditional on the eve of this holiday to prepare a dinner which includes sweet foods symbolizing our hope for a sweet year ahead.
Every year my table includes apples and honey for dipping, a round challah which is also dipped in honey, chicken soup, chopped liver, braised brisket with carrots, or roast chicken, potatoes, and sometimes an apple kugel as well.
For dessert I always make my favorite honey cake, and my Mom’s Viennese apple cake.
This year I searched and found a salad to replace my regular salad…one which may become a new tradition on my holiday table.
It is a chopped salad of apples, parsley, red onion, pomegranate seeds, and toasted crushed walnuts, dressed in a honey vinaigrette. It can be served on small lettuce leaves as an appetizer. It is delicious! I will post the recipe soon.
Here are a few photos from our holiday dinner… Happy New Year!
