Happy Thanksgiving to all! It was a wonderful Thanksgiving for us with our sons and daughters-in-law here for the holiday weekend.
Our badly needed rain arrived Thanksgiving Day and continued through the weekend which meant driving in rain for the better part of their trips to and from their homes in LA and San Francisco.
Everyone arrived back home safely, and the rain was one more thing to be grateful for because it’s been quite some time since we have had any.
Of course we missed our extended family back east, including my brothers, sister-in-law, niece and cousins who were celebrating at my sister’s home.
However, we shared a very similar menu which includes some of our favorite holiday dishes our mother made for countless past Thanksgiving dinners.
My sister and I even texted back and forth from her home in Pennsylvania as we both prepared Mom’s Challah Stuffing.
We exchanged photos of our dishes and shared our nostalgia as we remembered our mom and dad and other family members no longer with us at this special time of year.
We decided next year may be the year we all somehow get together for Thanksgiving, either east coast or west coast.
Now on to this year’s menu…
- Appetizers included shrimp, homemade cocktail sauce,
- pigs in blanket with honey mustard
- citrus herb olives, and
- a simple cheese and charcuterie board… to see a cheese and fruit board check this out!

Our home was bedecked for Thanksgiving…

Now for the FEAST…
Thanksgiving Salad….beautiful greens with watermelon radishes, persimmons, red onion, cucumbers, candied pecans, and dried cranberries. Tossed with a Champagne vinaigrette…

Roast Turkey ..with Gravy and ALL THE SIDES…

Mashed Potatoes (this year I cooked the potatoes with garlic, whipped them in electric mixer with whisk attachment, and added butter, sour cream, milk and some heavy cream , lots of salt, and a little pepper to make them the fluffiest, creamiest yet!!!

Rhoda’s Kicked-Up Candied Sweet Potatoes

Cranberry Sauce

Roasted Carrots

And for the Dessert Finale…
Glazed Chocolate Chambord Cake for my son’s birthday in early December, Spiced Apple Pie, (remember the recipe is for 2 double crust pies, cut in half if you are making a single pie) and Bourbon Butterscotch pudding with Whipped Cream.
Gelato in four flavors…vanilla, black raspberry chocolate chip, mint chip, and coffee with chocolate chips!!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
